The other day, I was driving our two kiddos to a birthday party across town when a plop hit my windshield. An incredibly blue sky began suddenly raining the most beautiful, giant raindrops. My children started singing a song I'd never heard before..."Rain, rain, stay awhile. Touch the earth and make it smile..."
I guess the lyrics have been changed to accommodate desert living.
Bursting out of the sky and arching down to kiss the ground was the most beautiful rainbow. We drove on as it disappeared. The sky became dark, lightning crackled, the wind was strong enough to pull the car as we moved down the road, and the most amazing three days of scattered thunderstorms broke up the longest and harshest 7-month drought that this city has had on record.
April was difficult, May was worse, and June put a cherry on top. But, we're in July. Jay was awarded a scholarship, I got some great news from school, the eye surgery my father had was successful, we had a beautiful holiday on the 4th, and we finally got the rain we needed to quench the long thirst.
We've had great visits with family. We've gone swimming several times each week. Jet went to sports camp, and he has cooking camp next week. Kimber started ballet and decided that she loves it. I've done nothing on my punch list, but that's okay. I joined a gym for the summer that has childcare so I can get in my workouts uninterrupted while the kiddos enjoy the time the playtime they need with other children their age. I think my intensity scares some of the people around me as I do a P90X or Insanity workout to AC/DC on my iPod while I'm dripping sweat from every orifice...but luckily I'm not at the gym to socialize. If I smell bad and look like I peed my pants....well, that's what the hot shower is for afterwards.
I've decided that's my pot of gold.
