I love that I am a student with my husband. Together, we teach our children the importance of education through daily example. Our dates are often at the library. We stress out over finals equally. We've had our share of good times and bad, but doing this together is just as meaningful as any other endeavor we've taken on.
I don't like the poverty that comes with being a student. They go hand in hand, I know. One really cannot dedicate oneself full-time to such an endeavor without major financial sacrifices. It's a choice, and I don't feel as if we're victim to anything. But it is a reality. Sometimes, I wonder which is the greater lesson...getting a collegiate education or learning to spread a penny so that it will go further.
Both lessons are so very important.
So, it was a very happy day when we learned that your votes counted and he won a national scholarship contest for which there were hundreds of entries. This greatly impacts us....and so did the meaningful, kind words that so many of you had to say on the message board. There were times when we'd read those messages and well up with tears. Thank you.
